Nancy Kubasek

Dr. Nancy K. Kubasek received her J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law in 1981 and her B.A. from Bowling Green State University in 1978. She joined the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) faculty in 1982, became an associate professor in 1988, and became a full professor in 1993. During her tenure at BGSU, she has taught courses in the legal environment of business, environmental law, business law, health care law, and moral principles. Dr. Kubasek has published over 75 articles, primarily in law reviews and business journals. Most of her substantive articles focus on environmental questions. She has helped get college students involved in legal research, and a number of her articles have been coauthored with her students. She has also published a number of pedagogical articles in teaching journals, focusing primarily on the teaching of ethics and critical thinking. She wrote the first environmental law textbook for undergraduate students, Environmental Law, and coauthored The Legal Environment of Business: A Critical Thinking Approach.

Professor Nancy has written supplemental materials, such as test banks, study guides, and instructors’ manuals. In her leisure time, she and her husband, Neil Browne, fish for salmon and halibut in Alaska, as well as largemouth bass in Florida.

Dynamic Business Law: The Essentials 3rd edition (PDF) is appropriate for the one-semester Business Law course. It contains the basics of business law but does not get bogged down in the kind of details that are more appropriate in an upper-level law class. The textbook provides an examination of the basic concepts, questions, and legal rules of business law.

Emphasis on TEACHING. Many professors teaching this course are attorneys first and academics second. They do not have a lot of time to prepare or think about how to apply this information effectively for their business students. Dynamic Business Law: The Essentials contains a helpful instructor’s manual (not included in this sale), particularly for the many adjuncts teaching this course.

Emphasis on CRITICAL THINKING. Neil Browne, one of the co-authors of this textbook, has written a successful textbook on critical thinking. His framework is included in Dynamic Business Law: The Essentials 3rd edition as well to help students learn how to frame and reframe a question/issue. Critical thinking questions are also included at the end of every case, to tie in this component even further.

Emphasis on the BUSINESS in business law. Dynamic Business Law: The Essentials 3e emphasizes the tie of legal issues back to the core business curriculum. This will help both faculty and college students. Faculty need to know how this is integrated as they are constantly the inclusion of this course in the business curriculum. And students need to understand how the concepts tie to their future business careers.
