Susan A. Nolan

Dr. Susan Alice Nolan is a clinical psychologist and psychology educator who studies critical thinking in the classroom, mental health, assessment in higher education, and gender disparities in STEM fields. She is a professor of psychology at Seton Hall University.

Dr. Nolan was President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, and President of the Eastern Psychological Association from 2014-2015. She got the Fukuhara Award for Advanced International Research and Service from the International Council of Psychologists in 2020.

Sandra Hockenbury and new coauthor Susan Nolan’s outstanding textbook, Discovering Psychology 7th Edition (PDF) is grounded in the belief that all types of students can develop a real grasp of psychology and lasting scientific literacy.

The expert authors act on that conviction by using relevant personal stories to communicate the ideas of psychological science (and the procedure of science itself), and by offering important research in a clear not oversimplified way. Hockenbury and Nolan also take advantage of online learning, creating a lot of activities in LaunchPad (not available in this sale) that have psychology students thinking about psychology as real scientists do.

New co-author, Dr. Susan Nolan of The Seton Hall University was designated a Master Teacher by the Society for Teaching Psychology recently. She regularly gives talks and classes about incorporating scientific literacy into all introductory courses and across the psychology curriculum.
