Dr. Don Herrmann (late) passed away on May 8, 2018. He was the Deloitte Professor of Accounting at Oklahoma State University since 2005, receiving numerous teaching awards and specializing in financial and intermediate accounting. Don earned a bachelor's from John Brown University, a master's from Kansas State University, and a PhD from Oklahoma State University. He was active in the American Accounting Association and served as president of the International Accounting Section. Known for his warm demeanor, he dedicated time to his community and church, enjoying personal connections. Family was his priority; he loved camping, amusement parks, and coaching little league with his wife, Mary, and their four children: Rachel, David, Nathan, and Micah. During his illness, Don often expressed pride and gratitude for his family.
J. David Spiceland
Dr. David Spiceland is an ex-Professor at the School of Accountancy where he taught financial accounting at the graduate, undergraduate, and doctoral levels for over 35 years. David got his B.S. degree in finance from the University of Tennessee, got his MBA from Southern Illinois University, and earned his Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Arkansas. He also is a CPA.
Dr. Spiceland is a textbook author whose several books include the best-selling Financial Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting, both with McGraw-Hill. He has published articles in a variety of professional and academic journals. Professor Spiceland has received many college and university awards and recognition for his research, service, teaching, and technological innovations in the classroom.
Wayne Thomas
Dr. Wayne M. Thomas serves as the Chair of Accounting at the University of Oklahoma, specializing in intermediate and introductory financial accounting courses. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, followed by both his Master’s and Ph.D. in accounting from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Thomas has been honored with numerous teaching awards across college, university, and departmental levels, including the Outstanding Educator Award from the Oklahoma Society of CPAs. Additionally, he is a co-author of McGraw-Hill's renowned textbook, Financial Accounting, alongside Don Herrmann and Dr. David Spiceland.
Wayne's primary research interests encompass market-based accounting research, financial disclosures, financial statement analysis, and international accounting issues. His exceptional work has earned him multiple accolades, including the prestigious Competitive Manuscript Award from the American Accounting Association.
