About The Author

Robert Feldman

Robert Feldman

Dr. Robert S. Feldman is Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Deputy Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. A recipient of the College Distinguished Teacher Award, Robert teaches psychology classes ranging in size from 15 to nearly 500 students. During the course of more than 40 years as a college instructor, he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses at Wesleyan University, Mount Holyoke College, and Virginia Commonwealth University in addition to the University of Massachusetts.

Professor Roebrt, who initiated the Minority Mentoring Program at the University of Massachusetts, also has served as a Hewlett Teaching Fellow and Senior Online Teaching Fellow. He initiated distance learning courses in psychology at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Feldman received a B.A. with High Honors from Wesleyan University (from which he received the Distinguished Alumni Award). He has an MS and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Robert is a winner of a Fulbright Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer award, and he has written more than 100 book chapters, books, and scientific articles. His books have been translated into many languages, including Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, French, Chinese, Korean, Dutch, German, and Japanese.

Professor Robert is president of the Federation of Associations of Behavioral and Brain Sciences Foundation, a consortium of societies that benefit the social sciences. In addition, Robert is on the Board of New England Public Radio. He loves music, is an enthusiastic pianist, and enjoys traveling and cooking. He has 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and he and his wife, a psychologist, live in western Massachusetts in a home overlooking the Holyoke Mountain Range.
