About The Author

David Capuzzi

David Capuzzi

Dr. David Capuzzi, PhD, NCC, LPC, is an emeritus faculty member at Walden and Portland State University. He previously served as an affiliate professor at Pennsylvania State University and was Scholar in Residence at Johns Hopkins University. He is a past president of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and has held leadership roles in the ACA Foundation and Insurance Trust. From 1980 to 1984, he was editor of The School Counselor and has authored several publications on preventing adolescent suicide, including coediting Helping Families Help Children (1986) and Preventing Adolescent Suicide (1988). His works include Youth at Risk (1989-2019), Introduction to the Counseling Profession (1991-2017), and other important texts on counseling.

A frequent speaker at conferences, Dr. Capuzzi has consulted with schools and agencies on suicide prevention strategies, facilitating programs across the U.S. He is an ACA fellow and has received numerous awards, including the Kitty Cole Human Rights Award and the Gilbert and Kathleen Wrenn Award in 2010. Additionally, he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni of Florida State University in 2011 and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision in 2019. In 2021, he developed a webinar series, Leading Lights in Counseling, for Walden University, and a similar series for Palo Alto University in 2022-23.
