About The Author

James Q. Wilson

James Q. Wilson

Dr. James Q. Wilson (late) was Professor Emeritus of Management and Public Administration at UCLA and, before that, the Shattuck Professor of Government at Harvard University. He taught at Boston College and Pepperdine University. He wrote more than a dozen textbooks on bureaucracy, public policy, and political philosophy. A former president of the American Political Science Association (APSA), James is the only political scientist to win three of the four-lifetime achievement awards presented by the APSA. In 2003, Dr. Wilson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's nation's highest civilian award. He passed away in March 2012 after battling cancer.
John J. Dilulio

John J. Dilulio

Dr. John J. DiIulio Jr. is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania and has received one of Penn's most coveted teaching awards. He was a senior fellow and led research programs at many leading think tanks, including the Brookings Institution, before becoming Professor of Politics and Public Affairs at Princeton University.
The Association of Public Policy Analysis and Management, the American Political Science Association, and other organizations have recognized him with awards.
He has also advised presidential candidates from both parties, served on bipartisan government reform committees and worked in the White House as a senior staff member.
Harvard University awarded him a Ph.D. in political science.
Matthew S. Levendusky

Matthew S. Levendusky

Dr. Matthew S. Levendusky is an Associate Professor of Political Science at The University of Pennsylvania. Stanford University awarded him a Ph.D., and The Pennsylvania State University awarded him a B.A. His research focuses on understanding how institutions and elites influence ordinary citizens' political behaviour, including studies of mass polarisation, the effects of partisan media, and a variety of other topics.
His work has received numerous awards, including the 2011 Jewell-Lowenberg Award (for the best article published in Legislative Studies Quarterly), the 2013 best paper award from the Journal of Politics, the 2014 Goldsmith Book Prize from Harvard University's Shorenstein Center (for How Partisan Media Polarize America), and the 2016 Erik Erikson Early Career Award from the International Association for Political Research.
Meena Bose

Meena Bose

Dr. Meena Bose is the Executive Dean of Hofstra University's Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy, and International Affairs' Public Policy and Public Service programmes. She is also the director of the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. Meena teaches courses on the American presidency, presidential leadership and policymaking, and American politics.

She is the author or editor of many volumes of presidency studies and American politics.
She was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and taught for six years at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Princeton University awarded her a Ph.D., and The Pennsylvania State University awarded her a B.A.
