Essentials of Corporate Finance 11th Edition is designed to provide undergraduate students, regardless of their diverse backgrounds, with the fundamental takeaways from a core course in business or corporate finance. The aim is to communicate key concepts in a manner that is accessible to the broadest audience. Written in an engaging, conversational tone, Essentials encourages students to actively participate in the learning journey instead of merely absorbing information passively.

Essentials revolves around three core themes:

1. Intuitive Understanding: We prioritize breaking down and clarifying underlying principles on a common-sense level before delving into detailed specifics.

2. Integrated Valuation Method: We regard net present value (NPV) as the foundational concept driving corporate finance.

3. Managerial Emphasis: It’s crucial for students to remember that financial management is inherently linked to management itself. We highlight the importance of the financial manager as a decision-maker, reinforcing the necessity of managerial insight and judgment in the process.
