Dr. Julia K. Johnson got her M.S. and Ph.D. in structural geology and geoscience education. At Arizona State University (ASU), Dr. Johnson teaches Introduction to Geology to nearly 1,000 students yearly and is in charge of the related introductory geology labs. She is a full-time faculty member in the School of Earth and Space Exploration. She also oversees the School of Earth and Space Exploration's efforts to teach introductory geology, working with other professors to include inquiry and active learning in big lecture classes. Her research on geoscience education primarily concerns using instructor- and student-generated sketches for learning, teaching, and evaluation in college geology courses.

Dr. Stephen J. Reynolds earned his bachelor's degree in arts from the University of Texas at El Paso and his master's and doctorate degrees in geosciences from the University of Arizona. Dr. Reynolds teaches regional geology, earth resources, landscape evolution, field studies, and teaching methods at Arizona State University's School of Earth and Space Exploration. He oversaw the Arizona Geological Survey's geologic framework and mapping efforts, leading to the completion of a new geologic map of Arizona. He has traversed the nation as a renowned speaker for the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, giving speeches and workshops on incorporating inquiry-based learning and active learning into large introductory geology classes.
