About The Author

C. William Thomas

Dr. C. William Thomas aka Bill Thomas is the J. E. Bush Professor of Accounting and a Master Teacher at Baylor University. A Baylor University alumnus, he earned both his MBA and BBA there and went on to earn his Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.

With primary interests in the areas of financial accounting and auditing, William has served as the J. E. Bush Professor of Accounting since 1995. He has been a member of the faculty of the Accounting and Business Law Department of the Hankamer School of Business since 1971 and served as chair of the department for over 12 years. Bill has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor for the Hankamer School of Business and an Outstanding Faculty Member of Baylor University. He has received many awards for outstanding teaching, including the Outstanding Professor in the Executive MBA Programs as well as designation as Master Teacher.

Dr. Thomas is the author of many great textbooks in auditing and financial accounting, as well as many articles in financial accounting and reporting, taxation, auditing, ethics, and accounting education. His scholarly work focuses on the subject of fraud detection and prevention, as well as ethical issues among accountants in public practice.

Thomas is a certified public accountant in Texas. Prior to becoming a professor, Thomas was a practicing accountant with the firms of KPMG, LLP, and BDO Seidman, LLP. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Charles T. Horngren

Dr. Charles T. Horngren (Died in 2011) was the Edmund W. Littlefield Emeritus Professor of Accounting at Stanford University. A graduate of Marquette University, he got his MBA from Harvard University and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Charles was also the recipient of honorary doctorates from DePaul University and Marquette University.

A certified public accountant, Dr. Horngren served on the Financial Accounting Standards Board Advisory Council for 5 years, the Accounting Principles Board for 6 years, and the Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for 3 years. For 6 years he served as a trustee of the Financial Accounting Foundation, which oversees the Government Accounting Standards Board and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. He is also a member of the Accounting Hall of Fame.

Walter T. Harrison

Dr. Walter T. Harrison Jr. is a professor emeritus of accounting at the Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University. He got his BBA from Baylor University, his MS from Oklahoma State University, and earned his Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards from student groups as well as from university administrators. Dr. Harrison has also taught at the University of Texas, Michigan State University, Cleveland State Community College, and Stanford University.

Walter has lectured in several foreign countries and published articles in numerous journals, including Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Horizons, Issues in Accounting Education, Economic Consequences of Financial Accounting Standards, and Journal of Law and Commerce.

He has received fellowships, scholarships, and research grants or awards from Deloitte & Touche, the Ernst & Young Foundation, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the KPMG Foundation.

Wendy M. Tietz

Wendy M. Tietz

Dr. Wendy Tietz got her Ph.D. from Kent State University. She received both her B.S.A and M.B.A. from The University of Akron. Tietz worked in the industry for several years, both as a controller for a financial institution and as the operations manager and controller for a recycled plastics manufacturer.

Professor Wendy is currently a faculty member in the Department of Accounting in the College of Business Administration at Kent State University since 2000. She teaches in a variety of formats, including small sections, large sections, and web-based sections. She is a Certified Management Accountant, a Certified Public Accountant, and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Tietz earned the Michael and Mary Ann Cook/Deloitte Foundation Prize for Innovation in Undergraduate Teaching, awarded by the American Accounting Association.

Dr. Tietz is also a co-author of an accounting textbook, Managerial Accounting, by Braun & Tietz and Financial Accounting, by Thomas, Tietz & Harrison.
