About The Author

Frederic S. Mishkin

Dr. Frederic S. Mishkin is the Alfred Lerner Professor of Banking and Financial Institutions at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University (USA). He is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a member of the Squam Lake Working Group on Financial Reform,co-director of the US Monetary Policy Forum, and past president of the Eastern Economics Association. Since receiving his Ph.D. from the MIT in 1976, he has taught at the Northwestern University, Princeton University, University of Chicago, and Columbia. He has also received an honorary professorship from the People’s (Renmin) University of China. From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Mishkin was Director of Research and Executive Vice President at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and an associate economist of the Federal Open Market Committee of the Federal Reserve System. From September 2006 to August 2008, he was a member (governor) of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

Fred's research examines monetary policy's effects on financial markets and the economy. He has authored over 20 books, including Financial Markets and Institutions, 10th Edition (Pearson); Macroeconomics: Policy and Practice (Pearson); The Next Great Globalization (Princeton University Press); Monetary Policy Strategy (MIT Press); and more. He has also published over 200 articles in journals like Journal of Political Economy, Econometrica, and American Economic Review.

Stanley Eakins

Dr. Stanley G. Eakins has extensive experience in finance, serving as vice president and comptroller at the First National Bank of Fairbanks, as well as a commercial and real estate loan officer. He founded the Denali Title and Escrow Agency in Fairbanks and managed operations at a bank, also serving as CFO for a multimillion-dollar construction company. Professor Eakins earned his Ph.D. from Arizona State University and was Dean of the College of Business at East Carolina University. His research focuses on institutional roles in corporate control and investment practices, and he has integrated multimedia tools into learning, receiving grants for this. He contributes to journals like the Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics and authored Corporate Finance 2.1 from FlatWorld Knowledge.
