Denise Harmening

Dr. Denise M. Harmening is an accomplished educator, researcher, and author. She is President of D.H. Publishing & Consulting, Inc., Director of Curriculum for the SBB/MS program in Clinical Laboratory Management, and Adjunct Professor at Rush University. Her notable books include Clinical Hematology and Fundamentals of Hemostasis and Modern Blood Banking and Transfusion Practices (7^th edition). Denise founded the Clinical Laboratory Science department at Thomas Jefferson University and the Department of Medical & Research Technology at the University of Maryland. She received the “Excellence in Education Award” in 1999 and was recognized as one of “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” in 2001 and 2003. In 2008, she earned the American Association of Blood Banks “Sally Frank Memorial Award.” Denise also served as Director of Instruction and Customer Learning for the American Red Cross in 2008 and 2009, developing a continuing education program for lab professionals. She has led seven grants and over fifteen clinical trials. Active in various committees, she currently serves on the ASCP Editorial Advisory Board: Medscape Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. With over twenty-five years in Blood Banking, her research has yielded 7 patents, focusing on red cell and platelet preservation and CD34+ stem cells from cord blood.
