About The Author

Tommie L. Norris

Dr. Tommie Norris joined the faculty of the UTHSC College of Nursing in 2005. In the College of Nursing, she is a tenured professor. In her present position as Associate Dean for Evaluation and Effectiveness, she oversees accreditation processes as well as CON effectiveness and evaluation in relation to the college of nursing's missions.

Dr. Norris holds a Doctor of Nursing Science degree in clinical research and nursing education from Louisiana State University Health Science Center in New Orleans, LA, a Masters of Nursing Science degree in Community Health and Family Nursing from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee, a Bachelor of Nursing Science from the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, and an Associate of Science in Nursing from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee.

Currently, her study focuses on nursing education and cultural diversity. Pathophysiology is one of the subjects she teaches and excels in. She has worked as an item writer for the National Council Licensure Examination-RN and as a test construction and curriculum development consultant.

Tommie works with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education as an evaluator (CCNE). She is a member of the Academic Taskforce for the Robert Wood Johnson Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project. She chairs the scholarship committee for the Tennessee Nurses Foundation's Board of Directors. She is also a member of the American Nurses Association's Palliative and Hospice Care Advisory Panel.
