Tony Gaddis

Dr. Tony Gaddis is the principal author of the "Starting Out With" series of textbooks. Professor Gaddis has more than 20 years of experience teaching computer science courses, primarily at Haywood Community College. He is a highly acclaimed instructor who was previously selected as the North Carolina Community College “Teacher of the Year” and has received the Teaching Excellence award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development. The Starting Out With series includes introductory ebooks covering Java™, C++, Microsoft Visual Basic, Python, Microsoft C#, Alice, Programming Logic and Design, and App Inventor, all published by Pearson.

A student-friendly, clear and easy introduction to the fundamentals of Python In Tony Gaddis’ Starting Out with Python, 4th Global Edition (PDF), accessible coverage introduces college students to the basics of programming in a high-level language. Python, an easy-to-learn and increasingly popular object-oriented language, allows students to become comfortable with the fundamentals of programming without the troublesome syntax that can be challenging for novices.

With the knowledge acquired using Python, computer students gain confidence in their skills and learn to recognize the logic behind developing high-quality programs. Starting Out with Python 4e (global) discusses functions, arrays, control structures, and pointers before objects and classes. As with all Tony Gaddis textbooks, clear and easy-to-read code listings, focused explanations, practical and concise real-world examples, and an abundance of exercises appear in each chapter. Updates to the 4th Global Edition include improved, revised problems throughout, and new Turtle Graphics sections that provide flexibility as assignable, optional material. MyLab (TM) Programming is not included. Students, if MyLab is a recommended/mandatory component of the course, please ask your instructor for the correct ISBN and course ID. MyLab should only be purchased when required by an instructor. Instructors, contact your Pearson rep for more information. MyLab (TM) Programming is an online learning system designed to engage college students and improve results. MyLab Programming consists of programming exercises correlated to the concepts and objectives in this book. Through practice exercises and immediate, personalized feedback, MyLab Programming improves the programming competence of beginning computer students who often struggle with the basic concepts of programming languages.
