Among those he collaborates with are The Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute, The Alvin L. Storrs Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, The Michigan State Law Review, and the MSU Immigration Clinic.

Professor Laurel Currie Oates played a pivotal role in developing Seattle University's esteemed legal writing program, which has received recognition from U.S. News and World Report as the premier legal writing program in the United States for eight out of the past ten years. She led the program from 1982 to 2012 and continues to impart her expertise as an instructor within it.

Professor Oates is a co-founder of the Legal Writing Institute, which boasts over 2,400 members. Additionally, she has co-authored five prominent books: The Legal Writing Handbook, currently in its seventh edition, along with Just Research, Just Memos, Just Briefs, and Just Writing.
