Throughout history, interventions aimed at influencing the lives of disabled individuals have been based on models that focused on their limitations. This started to change when the World Health Organization (WHO) implemented frameworks, especially the International Classification of Function (ICF), which highlighted that disability could only be comprehended by considering the interactions between health, personal factors, and environmental factors. By examining the impact of these factors on a person’s activities and participation, the ICF emphasized the need to understanding disability in context. Although the ICF acknowledged personal factors as part of a social-ecological model of disability, it did not extensively classify what these factors entail. The Positive Psychology of Personal Factors delves into personal factors derived from the field of positive psychology, in order to identify and develop approaches that focus on individuals’ strengths. The goal is to promote the complete participation, dignity, and well-being of disabled individuals.
