About The Author

Kenrick Mock

Kenrick Mock

Dr. Kenrick Mock is an Associate Professor at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. He has also taught at Portland State University, Washington Stat University, and the University of California-Davis. He currently teaches undergraduate computer science courses across the curriculum including introductory C++, Visual Basic(R) for non-programmers, Java(TM), computer security, algorithms, and artificial intelligence (AI). With the Coastal Marine Institute at UAA, he helped develop a computer system to aid in research about Alaska sea ice and the atmosphere. Before becoming a teacher, Kenrick was a research scientist and software engineer at Intel(TM). He received his Ph.D. in computer science from UC Davis.

Walter Savitch

Dr. Walter Savitch is Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at the University of California-San Diego. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California-Berkeley (USA) in 1969. Since that time Dr. Savitch has been on the faculty of the University of California-San Diego. He served as director of the university's Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in cognitive science for over 10 years. He has also served as a visiting researcher at the computer science departments of the University of Colorado in Boulder, and the University of Washington in Seattle, and has been a visiting scholar at the Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

This ebook by Kenrick Mock and Walter Savitch, Absolute Java 6th global edition (PDF) is designed to serve as a textbook and reference for programming in the Java language. Although it does include programming techniques, it is organized around the features of the Java language rather than any particular curriculum of programming techniques. The main audience is undergraduate college or university students who have not had extensive programming experience with the Java language.

The introductory chapters of this 6th edition (global) are written at a level that is easily accessible to beginners, while the boxed sections of those chapters serve to quickly introduce more experienced programmers to basic Java syntax. Later chapters in the ebook are still designed to be accessible but are written at a level suitable for students who have progressed to these more advanced topics.
