Judi L. Nath

Dr. Judi L. Nath is a biology professor and the writer-in-residence at Lourdes University, where she teaches at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  Primary courses include pathophysiology, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and science writing. She received her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Bowling Green State University, which included study abroad at the University of Salzburg in Austria. Her doctoral work focused on autoimmunity, and she completed her Ph.D. from the University of Toledo. Professor Judi is devoted to her science and medical students and strives to convey the intricacies of science in captivating ways that are interactive, meaningful, and exciting.

She has won the Faculty Excellence Award — an accolade recognizing effective scholarship, teaching, and community service—multiple times and in 2013 was named as an Ohio Memorable Educator.  She is active in many professional organizations, notably the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), where she has served several terms on the board of directors. Judy is a coauthor of Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, Visual Essentials of Anatomy & Physiology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Human Anatomy (published by Pearson), and she is the sole author of Using Medical Terminology and Stedman’s Medical Terminology (published by Wolters Kluwer). Her favorite charities are those that have significantly affected her life, including the local Humane Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the ALS Association. In 2015, she and her husband established the Nath Science Scholarship at Lourdes University to assist underprivileged students pursuing science-based careers.

Braun and Nath’s Applied Pathophysiology: A Conceptual Approach, 4th Edition, presents pathophysiology through the perspective of body function, transcending mere memorization of facts. This comprehensive resource equips students with a deep understanding of altered human function while providing a practical framework for applying concepts in clinical scenarios. By illustrating that diseases seldom affect only one body system, this innovative approach trains students to think like practitioners, progressing from symptoms to underlying causes. This methodology fosters a profound comprehension of the disease process, which is crucial for successful practice.

This updated 4th Edition incorporates the latest clinical practices and evidence-based research to prepare students for changes in healthcare. The textbook includes dynamic features that support active learning, encouraging students to apply their knowledge to various diseases.
