James D. Halderman

James (Jim) Halderman brings a world of experience, knowledge, and talent to his work. His automotive service experience includes working as a flat-rate technician, a business owner, and a professor of automotive technology.

Jim holds a US patent for an electronic transmission control device. He is an ASE-certified master automotive technician (A1-A9) plus G1, L1, and L3. He has a bachelor of science degree from Ohio Northern University and a master’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Jim is the author of 18 automotive textbooks, all published by Pearson. Jim Halderman has presented numerous technical seminars to national audiences, including the Illinois College Automotive Instructor Association (ICAIA), and California Automotive Teachers (CAT). He is also a member of and presenter at the North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT). James Halderman was named Regional Teacher of the Year by the General Motors Corporation.

Halderman’s Automatic Transmissions and Transaxles, 7E, (PDF) provides a complete, state-of-the-art source on the operating principles as well as the service and repair procedures for modern automatic transmission transaxles, complete with the practical skills that students must master to be successful in the industry. The textbook focuses on the generic theory underlying the operation, diagnosis, and repair of the units and subassemblies found in the many makes and types of vehicles students are likely to encounter in their work. Formatted to appeal to today’s technical trade students, Halderman uses helpful tips and visuals to bring concepts to life and guide students through the procedures.

This ebook is part of the Pearson Automotive Professional Technician Series, which provides full-color, media-integrated solutions for today’s students and instructors covering all eight areas of ASE certification, plus additional titles covering standard courses. Peer reviewed for technical accuracy, the series and the books in it represent the future of automotive textbooks.
