About The Author

Andrew Friedland

Andrew Friedland

Dr. Andrew Friedland is a distinguished environmental and forest ecosystem scientist with over 35 years of experience researching the effects of air pollution in the high-elevation forests of New England and New York. Throughout his career, he and his colleagues have investigated the cycling of critical elements like carbon, nitrogen, calcium, and lead as they transition from the atmosphere through vegetation and soils into aquatic systems. Additionally, he has explored the consequences of biomass removal on forest ecosystems. Dr. Friedland teaches courses in energy, introductory environmental science, and forest biogeochemistry. He is also the lead author of an introductory environmental science textbook, as well as a primer on grant proposal development and writing.

Rick Relyea
