About The Author

Paul Insel

Paul Insel

Dr. Paul M. Insel has been trained as an M.D. and with board certification in Internal Medicine, he received research training at the UCSF and NIH before joining the faculty at UCSF and subsequently UCSD, where he is currently Distinguished Professor of Pharmacology and Medicine and Vice-Chair. He is also the Director of the UCSD Medical Scientist (M.D./Ph.D.) Training Program. Dr. Insel holds a Doctorate from the University of Paris and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and has received many other awards and honors. Paul has also served as Associate/Editor of numerous scientific journals and is currently Editor of the Annual Review of Pharmacology and Toxicology and co-Head of Faculty of the Faculty of 1000Prime in Pharmacology and Drug Discovery.

Dr. Insel has been the principal investigator of numerous NIH studies involving mental health, health education, cardiovascular disease, blood pressure, and nutrition. He has authored over 14 books and more than 100 articles.

Thomas Fahey

Thomas Fahey

Dr. Thomas D. Fahey (late) was a Professor of Kinesiology at California State University, where he taught Principles of Strength and Conditioning, and Exercise Physiology. He had an Ed.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to writing trade books and college textbooks on wellness, exercise physiology, and athletic training, Dr. Fahey has written hundreds of articles for popular magazines and scholarly journals and was a contributing editor for several fitness magazines. A volunteer assistant coach with the track and field team at Chico, Tom was a world-class master's discus thrower. He was also a competitor in highland games, alpine skiing, powerlifting, and tennis.

Dr. Walton T. Roth, M.D., is Chief of the Psychiatric Consultation Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is author of over 150 research articles about how the body reacts to psychological and stress disorders. His clinical specialties are the treatment of anxiety disorders and psychiatric consultation in the general hospital.
