Mary K. Campbell

Dr. Mary K. Campbell was a Mount Holyoke College Professor Emeritus of Chemistry who taught biochemistry, general chemistry, and physical chemistry, as well as advised undergraduates working on biochemical research projects. Her zeal for writing resulted in the publication of numerous highly successful editions biochemistry-related textbooks.

Dr. Campbell, who is originally from Philadelphia, received her Ph.D. from Indiana University and did postdoctoral work in biophysical chemistry at Johns Hopkins University. Her research interests included the physical chemistry of biomolecules, particularly spectroscopic studies of protein-nucleic acid interactions.

She also coauthored Biochemistry with Shawn Farrell, as well as several editions of General, Organic, And Biochemistry by Bettelheim, Campbell, Brown, Farrell, and Torres.

Shawn O. Farrell

Dr. Shawn O. Farrell got his B.S. in biochemistry from University of California, Davis, studying carbohydrate metabolism. He did his Ph.D. at Michigan State University in biochemistry, where he focused on the study of fatty acid metabolism. Shawn became interested in biochemistry while in college, as it was relevant to his passion for bicycle racing. He raced competitively for over fifteen years and now officiates bicycle races worldwide.

Dr. Farrell has taught biochemistry and lab courses at Colorado State University for 16 years and now works for US Cycling. He has written scientific journal articles about specific research projects and about laboratory teaching, as well as articles for sports publications.

William H. Brown
