Conrad Kottak

Dr. Conrad Phillip Kottak is an American anthropologist and professor emeritus at the University of Michigan since 1968. He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University and has researched in Brazil and Madagascar, authoring books like Window on Humanity and Anthropology: The Exploration of Human Diversity. Kottak argues that American legends, such as Star Trek and the Thanksgiving story, are evolving into a modern mythology. He has received notable awards, including a teaching excellence award at Michigan in 1992 and the AAA/Mayfield Award in 1999. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2008 and is the most cited author in anthropology syllabi, according to the Open Syllabus Project.
