Mary Beth Flynn Makic

Dr. Mary Beth Flynn Makic, PhD, RN, is a professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz College of Nursing and a research scientist at Denver Health. She served as a research nurse scientist at University of Colorado Hospital from 2008-2015 and was a critical care clinical nurse specialist from 1996-2008. She earned her PhD in nursing in 2007, an MSN in 1992, and a BSN in 1985. Makic focuses on evidence integration to promote independent nursing practice and has over 36 years in critical care. She is a keynote speaker on overcoming barriers to evidence-based practice and has edited prominent nursing textbooks. Makic has served on the AACN board and is a long-time research grant reviewer for the Daisy Foundation. Her affiliations include CANS, Sigma Theta Tau International, and NACNS, where she co-chairs the Research and EBP committee. She has received numerous honors, including induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2012, and recently won the Elizabeth H Boeker Award. Makic has over 110 journal publications and 70 book chapters.
