Dr. Carolyn Jarvis, Ph.D., APN, MSN, CNP, Family Nurse Practitioner, Chestnut Health Systems, Bloomington, Illinois (USA) and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing, Illinois Wesleyan University.

Dr. Jarvis is the author of America’s most widely used health assessment textbook entitled Physical Examination and Health Assessment (now in its 8th edition) which has been translated into 5 languages. Carol was a recipient of the University of Missouri’s campus-wide Superior Teaching Award, where she previously taught health assessment and critical care nursing. In faculty roles at the University of Missouri, University of Illinois, and Illinois Wesleyan University, Dr. Jarvis has taught health assessment and pathophysiology/pharmacology to graduate students, nursing professionals, and baccalaureate students and has held over 150 continuing education seminars.

She has maintained a clinical practice, first as a cardiovascular clinical specialist in various critical care settings and then as a certified family nurse practitioner in primary care. Carolyn is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, recently serving as recording secretary of the Theta Pi Chapter, and is very active in the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing.
