Neil R. Carlson

Dr. Neil R. Carlson got his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois. He originally intended to study nuclear physics, but after learning in an introductory psychology course that psychology was a science, he changed his mind and opted to pursue that field instead.

Dr. Carlson spoke with numerous professors and visited their labs before switching his degree, and when he saw what physiological psychologists did, he realized he had discovered his calling. He continued studying there and earned his doctorate. A two-year postdoctoral study at the University of Iowa was followed by Carlson's arrival at the University of Massachusetts, where he spent the remainder of his career as a professor. Although he left UMass in the autumn of 2004, he has continued to update this book and follow advances in the behavioral neuroscience field.

A comprehensive, up-to-date,and accessible overview of behavioral neuroscience
