About The Author

Joseph J. Mistovich

Joseph J. Mistovich, MEd, NRP, chairs the Department of Health Professions and is a Professor at Youngstown State University. With over 36 years of experience as an EMS educator, he holds a Master of Education from Kent State University, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science in Allied Health, and an Associate in Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services from Youngstown State University. He has authored 15 EMS textbooks and over 50 journal articles and frequently speaks at EMS conferences. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions and has participated in various NHTSA committees and NREMT projects. He is a past recipient of multiple awards, including the Watson Award and several Distinguished Professorship Awards.

Dr. Keith J. Karren earned his PhD in health sciences from Oregon State University in 1975 and has been a BYU Health Sciences faculty member since 1971. A popular professor, he has received multiple teaching awards throughout his 39-year career. Active in medical organizations, he is part of Phi Kappa Phi and has held roles on the Utah County Board of Health and the Utah Basic Life Support Committee. Dr. Karren has published 25 books, including a leading EMT text and has presented at many professional conferences. He maintains an active lifestyle with western performance horses and has been married to Diane for over fifty years, celebrating five children and ten grandchildren.
