About The Author

Jeanne H. Ballantine

Jeanne H. Ballantine

Dr. Jeanne H. Ballantine is an Emerita Professor of Sociology at Wright State University in Ohio, which has around 17,000 students. She's also taught at a number of four-year colleges, including an "alternative" college and a historically Black college, as well as international programmes at universities around the world.

Dr. Ballantine has been teaching introductory sociology for more than 30 years, with the goal of introducing newcomers to the field and assisting sociology students in seeing its utility and value. She has been a leader in the teaching movement, helping to shape curriculum, write and present research on teaching, and provide workshops and consulting in regional, national, and international settings. She is a Fulbright Senior Scholar and a consultant and evaluator for the Departmental Resources Group.

Jeanne has written several textbooks with the intention of reaching out to students.
She scoured the literature on student learning and served as a mentor to teachers in a variety of disciplines as the founding director of Wright State University's Center for Teaching and Learning. Her teaching and contributions to helping others become effective teachers have been recognised by local, regional, and national organisations.
