About The Author

William T. Segui

Dr. William T. Segui is a Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at The University of Memphis. He got his B.S.C.E, M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. Since joining the Department of Civil Engineering at The University of Memphis, he has received two ASEE/NASA Summer Faculty Fellowships at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. William has worked several summers for various consulting firms and for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He received the University of Memphis Distinguished Teaching Award in 2000. He is also a Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a member of the Tennessee Structural Engineers Association. Bill is also a licensed professional engineer in the state of Tennessee.

Segui’s STEEL DESIGN, 5th edition (PDF) covers the fundamentals of structural steel design with an emphasis on the design of members and their connections, rather than the integrated design of buildings. The ebook is designed so that instructors can easily teach ASD, LRFD, or both, time-permitting. The application of fundamental principles is encouraged for design procedures as well as for practical design, but a theoretical approach is also provided to enhance engineering student’s development. While the ebook is intended for senior and junior-level engineering students, some of the later chapters can be used in graduate courses and practicing engineers will find this textbook to be an essential reference tool for reviewing their current practices.
