About The Author

Thomas Rowland

The Biology of Human Behavior, (PDF) addresses a series of such behaviours, jealousy, love, travel, suicide, etc., and explores new-found perspectives that speak to a biological component in describing just why we behave as we do.

Why do human beings act the way they do? What rules how they act out their daily lives? It is not hard to provide the traditional argument that it’s mainly a matter of the culture in which we live, a result of the effects of family, peers, religious leaders, teachers, the books we read, the films we see, and so forth. Such behavior often opposes the independent nature of the human spirit, demanding a particular compromise we depend on others for our requirements, and to get these, we must behave accordingly. Evidence grows, however, that, moreover, much of our behaviour has its origins in biological processes. Such information shows that, whether we like to accept it or not, our behaviour is often ruled by biochemical agents within the brain, governed by our genetic inheritance, an expression of our animalistic ancestral past,  and all beyond the level of our conscious decision-making. Certainly, such scientific insights are restricted and currently offer only a narrow insight into human behavior. Nonetheless, this information clearly anticipates the coming of a greater appreciation that, as part of the animal kingdom, we remain biological beings along with members of a cooperative society.
