Joshua Cole

Dr. Joshua H. Cole is a Professor of History at the University of Michigan. Specializing in the social and cultural history of France since the Revolution of 1789, he earned his Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley. He is the author and co-author of many popular history books like The Power of Large Numbers: Population, Politics, and Gender in Nineteenth-Century France (2000), and Western Civilizations: Their History and Their Culture.

The balanced narrative in Western Civilizations, Their History and Their Culture-Volume 1, 19th Edition, (ePub/PDF) has been boosted with new and current scholarship―emphasizing new environmental history, more coverage of Eastern and Central Europe, and increased coverage of European and Muslim relations―making it the latest and relevant textbook for college students. Furthermore, Cole and Symes have improved their pedagogically innovative text with new History Skills Tutorials, Interactive Instructor’s Guide, and Norton InQuizitive for History, making the 19th Edition a more effective and interactive teaching and learning tool.
