Eric Mash

Eric Mash

Dr. Eric Mash is a professor of psychology at University of Calgary (Canada), where he enjoys teaching undergraduate classes in behavior modification, abnormal child psychology, and developmental psychopathology as well as graduate classes in clinical psychology, specifically in child assessment, child psychopathology, and child psychotherapy. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Florida State University (USA), and completed his residency in clinical child psychology at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon (USA).

Dr. Mash commits much of his energy and time outside of the classroom to researching the topics of abnormal child psychology, child psychotherapy, child and family assessment, and child development. Particularly interested in attention-deficit disorder and conduct problems, and in families in which children have been physically abused, he has contributed and published many journal articles and textbooks on these topics. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian and American Psychological Associations, and has served on the editorial boards of many prestigious journals and grant agencies at local and federal levels.

Through an accurate and thoughtful balance of clinical-diagnostic, developmental, and experimental approaches to child and adolescent psychopathology, Eric Mash and David Wolfe’s Abnormal Child Psychology 6th edition (PDF) remains the most scholarly, authoritative, and comprehensive ebook in its market. This sixty edition has been organized and updated to reflect DSM-5 categories, as well as dimensional approaches to classification and evidence-based assessment and treatment. Accessible to a broad range of readers, the ebook traces the developmental course of each disorder. It also shows how child psychopathology involves psychological, biological, and sociocultural factors interacting with a child’s environment. Case examples, Case histories, and first-person accounts are at the heart of the textbook, illustrating the categorical and dimensional approaches used to describe disorders and bringing life to the theories discussed. The authors also consistently illustrate how troubled children behave in their natural settings: schools, homes, and communities.
